Rogue One: the first Star Wars Anthology film

Postby RotorstormNP » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:53 am

Hey guys,
Big news for Star Wars fans: the first spin-off movie from Disney has been announced as Rogue One, and will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla). Felicity Jones, who played Jane Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, is so far the only announced cast member. It's due out December 16, 2016.

Chris Weitz is writing - I've never heard of him but they say he's Oscar nominated.

Also Rian Johnson's Episode VIII has a (more traditional) release date: 26 May 2017, 40 years and one day after ANH! I follow Johnson on Twitter, he enjoys messing with SW fans. He's fun.

Very interesting. After all the talk of a Boba Fett, Han Solo or Yoda spin-off we get the ambiguously titled Rogue One. Personally I'm hoping this is a unique concept (originating from John Knoll of all people) rather than just a codename cover for one of the aforementioned characters. I know there was a title of "Red Five" for much later down the track from earlier info about the episodes and spin-offs - wonder if it's the same story and has been moved up because Gareth Edwards liked that more than the other proposed options?

Wasn't that the name of Boba Fett's ship?

Assuming Jones is going to a Rogue pilot I think that is going to be sexy as heck.

I've actually wanted to see a pilot movie in the SW for so long. I grew up on X-wing, Tie Fighter, Rebel Assault, Rogue Squadron etc so dreamed of one day watching a movie about a cool gang of pilots.

Quote: The squadron was first identified by named in the 1980 film, The Empire Strikes Back, though they were referred to as "rogue group" and flew snowspeeders, not X-Wing fighters.

If this were true?
and Luke and wedge were a part of it..

That means technically they were a low flying terrain vehicle.
Wich means that hopefully we should see more snow battles with AT-AT Walkers and maybe a wookie battle?
The possibilities that the Star Wars franchise can do.
there is a story for every story. .... results in an ever lasting movie series.
If they realy wanted to? they could go in depth with just a single character and boom!! Three more movies.

I was kinda hoping that they would do a film on Lando and Han and how they became to be friends and how Lando lost the Millennium Falcon to Han.

I know it's not cannon but I'd recommend reading the Han Solo trilogy. I can't stand much of the Star Wars EU but I adored those three books.

Considering the Slave One was never named on-screen in the films....and the EU (where my presumption is the Slave One has been named many a time) has been declared non-canon....and there were rumours this would be a Boba Fett film....

Maybe 'Rogue One' is the new canon name of Boba's Firespray-class ship?????

Its his father's ship, which is still Canon so it would remain as Slave 1. :)

My point being that, from my memory, none of the films named the ship?

Don't know movie-wise but it has in print and I believe in the Clone Wars series, as Slave 1. I think it was still called Slave 1 in the films as a model.

I think it would be great to have a film covering Boba Fett though, as well as one which focussed more on Rogue Squadron.
