Transformers: Prime (links inside!)

Postby Mr.Deflok » Sat Nov 27, 2010 3:09 pm

So if my calculations are correct the first episode aired in the US about 2 hours ago. Initial buzz suggests the show is quite mature which is fantastic. Definitely looking forward to it and love the TF Decepticon designs but abhor Autobot faces (too bland) and Primes chest (it might look better in the show), it's a pity we won't see Prime toys until next year (probably in time for the show to air in NZ!).

It's likely to end up on the internet in the next few hours if not already. Anyone looking forward to the show?

I don't really like the designs off some of them, but the writing seems like it could be ok from a youtube clip is saw posted. As long as it's not like Cybertron. :x

I'm not a huge fan of the show's aesthetic, but it isn't incredibly offensive.. mainly the faces that annoy me.

The animation isn't great [it's basically the same quality of a cut scene on a video game] , but better than those Unicron Trilogy series.

The story on the other hand seems pretty strong, and I'm liking most of the voice acting.. definitely going to watch more of it.

Well after watching episode one. Here is my run-down **spoilers**

What i liked
Voice acting. Top notch, nothing sounded corny or badly delivered.
Character design. All of the Autobots at lest had well proportioned robot modes, with lots of interesting lines and details.
Human characters. Nobody is super annoying so far. I think its refreshing that Jack ends up with Arcee instead of BB.
Writing. A bit to early to say but my first impressions are positive.
Animation. Simplistic, but well delivered. Remands me of cloudy with a chance of meatballs.
Good fight scenes.

What i diden't like.
Face design. Overly simplistic for some characters. Especially for Starscream and Prime. Arcee can pull it off.
Megatron still retains the movie look
Starscream has a deformed animated look.
Decepticon drones.
Prime seems devoid of emotion compared to the other Autobots.
Land/space bridges are kind of a cheap plot device, but im not sure what else that could do? Skyfire Taxi?
Cliff jumper getting killed in the first episode
Edit* BB still not talking, but this time impersonating R2D2 :x

What i loved :D
Arcee as a main character
Starscream having a great intelligent devious voice.

Preliminary conclusion. Highly watchable. :D

Peter Cullen's age seems to be showing in Optimus's voice, makes him sound too old to me. :(

I wonder where Ironhide is in the Prime cartoons plot. Doesn't seem like it's a direct continuity of WFC since Dark Energon is different. Guess it's a different take using similar elements.

I don't like Starscreams look either, or sound waves. I Like how soundwave talked by recording, though. I didn't think starscream was mad/zealous enough though.

Bumblebee's voice is annoying, seems like its morse code or similar and Raph can understand. Reminds me of a sounds from Bioshock I think.

"Groundbridge" reminds me of RID.

Don't like how Agent Fowler seemed to not care they were huge effing robots. And that the japanese chick said "Watch it Ratchet" like she new him already.

The writing and voice actin seemed good though, and the humans characters aren't annoying(except maybe the japanese chick).

Yea i forgot to mention that im totally sick of BB not being able to talk. impersonating R2D2 is no better that the horrible radio talking form the movies.
I smell another cheap plot device for bonding with the younger computer wiz kid.

Lordy Lord, I loved it!

As mature with a great script and fantastic characterisation. I love the live-action movies (ROTF to a lesser extent) but in just the opening scene we got more bot character exposition than in both of Michael Bay's movies combined.

The greatest thing is that I'm enjoying the show on its own merits, not for any G1 nostalgia, so I think the formula really works.

Can't wait for episode 3!

p.s. I can't believe they killed off a character already!!

I think IDW has prequel comcs on how Arcee and Cliffjumper got to Earth later than the others. Cliffjumper dying makes me want to read them. :p

This show is a lot ... darker than I thought it would be.

We may have another Beast wars on our hands here.

Second link is actually a novel. :)

I got a copy of that from Mighty Ape but haven't got round to reading it yet. Some of the novel was adapted to a different comic though - I was given out with preorder copies of WFC at JB Hifi Aus, and Comic Con in the US. I grabbed a copy of that off ebay.

Might have to grab the Prime comic too. :p
